Current:
This proposal has lapsed.
Background
This proposal aims to better access to the headland at South Gannet Beach by constructing a boardwalk and viewing platform with seating for all to use. Already a popular spot for locals to gather the present viewing platform is inadequate for the community needs.
The construction of the boardwalk and viewing platform would be wheelchair accessible and would discourage people from making their own tracks thus enabling the natural vegetation to regenerate. There would also be some landscaping consistent with current vegetation.
At the 28 February 2021 Public Meeting the community agreed to proceed and refer this proposal to Council staff experts. Critical factors such as engineering designs, review of environmental factors, Indigenous heritage evaluation and project costs will need to be considered. Once this additional work has been completed by Council staff then the proposal may be bought back to the community for further consultation if the Council believes it is to be pursued further.
It should be noted that whilst an illustrative design was presented to the Community Meeting dated 28 February 2021, this was simply a concept drawing and there is no firm design at this stage.
