There are no scheduled presentations\, so the community can simply call in at a time that suits them to ask questions and provide feedback. \nThe online survey is open from Tuesday 28 January to Monday 24 February 2025 and available via the project’s Get Involved Page: \nhttps://getinvolved.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au/willinga-lake-flood-study \nCouncil is undertaking public exhibition and community consultation of the Draft Willinga Lake Flood Study and Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan (FRMSP)\, and so wanted to share the below with you for your information. This email follows on from an email dated 13 July 2023 regarding the commencement of this study. \nProject Objectives: \nThe primary objective of this study is to improve understanding of flood behaviour\, and better inform management of flood risk in the study area into the future. The study will also provide a sound technical basis for further flood risk management investigations and potential future works in the area. \nWhilst there are a small number of properties directly impacted on by flooding\, the Bawley Point and Kioloa villages include properties which could become isolated due to inundation of a low-lying section of Bawley Point Road from Willinga Lake and other local catchments crossing Bawley Point Road and Murramarang Road. This study will provide valuable information for the community and emergency services to improve their preparedness and response to flood events. \nThe aim of the upcoming public exhibition and community consultation phase is for Council to seek feedback from the community regarding the Draft Willinga Lake Flood Study and FRMSP such that comments can be considered prior to finalisation of the study. Importantly\, community feedback will be considered when finalising the Willinga Lake Floodplain Risk Management Plan which will outline adopted flood risk management strategies into the future. \nCommunity Consultation \nAs part of the community consultation\, Council will directly mail residents within the Willinga Lake catchment informing them about the commencement of the public exhibition and community consultation of this study. The letter includes a link to the project’s Get Involved Page\, which will include the following during the public exhibition period: \n\nA video presentation that discusses the study development and key outcomes;\nA short summary report that outlines the study development and key outcomes;\nDraft Willinga Lake Flood Study\, Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan\, and Mapping Compendium;\nLink to an online community survey to provide feedback; and\nNSW State Emergency Service (SES) Rural Properties FloodSafe brochure which provides useful information on what to do when flooding is likely\, how to stay informed during a flood event\, flood evacuation information and contact details for emergency services.\n\nHard copies of the report can be viewed during the public exhibition period at the Nowra City Administration Centre\, 36 Bridge Road\, Nowra; and Ulladulla Branch Office\, 14 Deering Street\, Ulladulla. Council will also place corflute signs in key locations informing the community of the consultation period. \nA community drop-in session will be held from 3pm to 6:30pm on Tuesday 11 February 2025 at the Bawley Point RFS where the community can meet Council staff\, local SES volunteers and consultants working on this project. There are no scheduled presentations\, so the community can simply call in at a time that suits them to ask questions and provide feedback. \nThe online survey is open from Tuesday 28 January to Monday 24 February 2025 and available via the project’s Get Involved Page: \ngetinvolved.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au/willinga-lake-flood-study
